Buddhist Civilisational Populism in Sri Lanka: Colonial Identity Formation, Post-War Othering, and Present Crises

In this paper, I discuss the evolution of Buddhist civilisational populism in modern Sri Lankan politics and civil society. do by historicising early forms country, during its occupation British Empire (1815–1945). As some key concepts “civilisationism” central to leading social political movements Ceylon were a result disruptions caused centuries European colonial rule. Consequently, issues identity belonging have carried on post-independence context. what these dynamics could possibly mean for future society, wake nation’s debilitating economic crisis last year.
